How to Prepare Artwork for Custom Label Printing
A simple checklist for preparing label artwork files before sampling and mass production.
Use the Correct Size and Dieline
The artwork should match the final label size and shape. A clear dieline helps the factory understand the cutting edge, bleed area and safe zone. Important text and barcodes should stay away from the cutting edge to avoid trimming issues.
Prepare Colors Properly
Print artwork is usually prepared in CMYK. Spot colors, foil areas, white ink layers and special finishes should be clearly marked. If brand color accuracy is important, provide Pantone references or approved printed samples for comparison.
Check Text and Barcode Readability
Small text, ingredient panels, nutrition information and barcode areas should be easy to read. For curved bottles or small labels, avoid placing too much text in a narrow area. Barcodes should be tested according to the final size and contrast.
Send Editable and Print-Ready Files
Vector files such as AI or PDF are preferred for most label printing projects. Outline fonts, embed images and include linked assets when needed. A clear file package reduces back-and-forth communication and helps production move faster.
Good artwork preparation can save time, reduce proofing mistakes and make label production smoother.
